Zdenko Zlatar teaches and carries out research in Early Modern and Modern European History, including Russian and East European history. His specialties include Russian Intellectual and Cultural History, the Balkans, and Byzantium in particular. In addition he has taught seminars in European Intellectual and Cultural History between 1880-1980, i.e. during the period of Modernism and Post-Modernism.

The Author: Zdenko Zlatar is Reader in Slavic History at the University of Sydney where he has taught Russian, East European, and modern European history since 1979. He is Vice President of the Commission internationale des etudes historiques slaves in Paris. He is the author of four other books including "The Slavic Epic: Gundulic's Osman" (Peter Lang, 1995), which together with the two volumes of "The Poetics of Slavdom" forms Zlatar's Slavic epic trilogy."
