Love Me Today

Too low to display

Love me today. If you got to hate me Why don't you do that tomorrow? Love me today. . . Baby I don't want you to hate me. Love me today. . . Love me, love me but don't you hate me. Love me today. . . Why do you have to hate me? Love me today. Just hold me in your arms and love me. Love me today . . . Love me, don't you hate me. Cause I'll always love you. Love me today. . .

Looking back on a girl I knew
Whose smile and laughter carried me through
Oh, the way that I felt when she looked at me that way

When I heard she was gone I had no one to hold
I wept as I felt my heart growin' cold
Like Poppa she taught me there's no time like today
But I hear her saying

Love me today, and let my strength be your own
Love me today, 'cause tomorrow I'll be gone
When I feel it's time to go, I'll be on my way
So love me today

I remember a time back when
Poppa would laugh as I held his hand
And just one embrace would make my troubles pass

I thought those times would never end
The day that he left he smiled and he said
I'll be home soon but Poppa never came back
I hear him saying

Love me today, and let my strength be your own
Love me today, 'cause tomorrow I'll be gone
When I feel it's time to go, I'll be on my way
So love me today

Don't be afraid to say, "I love you"
Take the moment and make it last
‘Cause if you don't tell them you love them
You might not get a second chance, no
So hear them saying

Love me today, and let my strength be your own
Love me today, 'cause tomorrow I'll be gone
When I feel it's time to go, I'll be on my way
So love me today, love me today, oh, ooh

rekindles early-'70s-era traditional country in the vein of , , and . There is sonic reinvention of the proverbial wheel on well-worn heartache tracks such as "Love Me Forever Today," which contains Spanish and English lyrics. The Mexican feeling of "Adios Mi Vida, Adios" and also "I'll Hold You in My Heart Till I Can Hold You in My Arms" also recalls the late performing "El Paso," even down to the horns. Void of any Nashville nuances that or churn out, classics such as a cover of ' "I Can't Help It (If I'm Still in Love With You)" are quite pleasing. However, "Conga (With a Little Bit of Rock & Roll)" is a Cajun-cum-salsa effort wrapped in honky tonk that sounds far too superficial. One song that doesn't quite make it is "Stranger," with . More festive is the toe-tapping Latin touch on "Say That You Love Me." But it's the traditional country that is worth this album's salt, especially on the tender "Table for Two."
